Ten years ago I worked as an instructional assistant in a fifth-grade classroom. The class was learning about the American Revolution. A couple of students said they were descendants of famous generals who fought for the British. One student told me his Dad was related to Captain Kidd.
Later that week, the subject of famous ancestory came up again. I remembered how one boy had said he was related to someone famous in history named Kid.
“Aren’t you related to Billy the Kid?” I asked.
He looked at me bewildered. “No. I am related to Captain Kidd. I don’t even know a kid named Billy!”
