I went Swimming
Yesterday I went swimming. No, not your casual day by the pool and tanning kind of swimming I mean swim cap, goggles, and a pool with lanes kind of swimming. I almost looked like I knew what I was doing, however far from it. As a runner I am use to pushing through heavy breathing and fatigue of the body, however this was different. I was not in my element. The open road, old shorts, mix matched socks, and the ground are more of my element. None the less swimming was fun yet hard, but not hard enough to keep me away.
Before yesterday I thought how hard can swimming be? Well after swimming about 425 yards or approximately 17 laps I have an answer to that question. It is hard. To start of I almost went down, multiple times, in swimming you can’t just come to a complete stop and catch your breath like in running, here you either swim or sink. There is no catching your breath, more like catching water in your mouth if you’re like me and don’t know what you’re doing. Only kidding I didn’t actually swallow any water, but it did go in my nose and ears if you’re wondering.
In case you’re also wondering yes I stopped mid lap a couple of times and doggy paddled to the edge at some points, but I also felt like I did a decent job for it being my first time. Breathing was the most difficult part for me. It is baffling how strenuous it felt to breath while trying to make it 25 yards across the pool with out stopping, yet I can run approximately 23,056 yards or 13.1 miles with out stopping. Obviously I am not use to swimming and I am ignorant to its techniques and styles, so that is it why it felt harder than running for me. Running is more natural to me as I have become disciplined to its techniques and ways.
After I got home from my swim I went on a quick run and I felt really light during the run I wonder if the fact that I went swimming right before had any effect.
Moral of the story… I couldn’t come up with a moral for this story. I guess there is no moral here.. I just wanted to share that I went swimming.
