A Birthday Story

50 years ago today, a general practitioner left his Labor Day barbecue in the middle of turning the burgers to attend to a birth of a baby that was two weeks overdue. The mother was convinced she was having a girl, even though blue preoccupied her dreams. When they celebrated the soon-to-be grandparent’s birthday the day before, Mendokers made a lemon filled sheet cake iced with “Happy Birthday, Grandma, Grandpa, and Baby Kathy”, as that was the name picked by the father. The nursery was decked out in Raggedy Ann and Andy for their miracle bundle.
