a survivor, I’m not going to make it…..
Yes I know… they’re not the right words but they should be and here’s why.
As the words of the famous Beyoncé song echo in my mind I have the feeling of elation, of power…. I am woman hear me roar!!! Except if you listen intently to the words it’s setting you up for failure…..you see nothing wonderful comes out of surviving (unless it’s actually a Life of death situation such as escaping a lion, quicksand or something of the like).
However in our daily lives if we are in a space of survival, struggling to pay bills, surviving our relatives, surviving our job, then we are cut off from all forms of creativity, the ability to see clear solutions, and ideas that could come unexpectedly to create harmony and abundance in our life.
We live in a world of terms like “dog eat dog”, “it’s a mans world”, “the quick or the dead”, which leaves men and women with a tactile sense of each man for himself. This has permeated our culture to leave us with a limited sense of community, and ultimately a huge sense of feeling alone in the world. And we wonder why suicides and depression are skyrocketing?!.
In this fast paced world of survival we forget to value ourselves and really take a moment, just to breath, just to be alone, to sit and take stock of our achievements, to appreciate our community and to marvel at this incredible world we live in. Now, you may oppose me on that, because what you see on the news of late definitely shows the world in a less than flattering light. Its all about the lens you view it through, and wide spread media has a lot to answer for.
I myself am utterly amazed at the human potential, and how much more there is to tap into, to really discover our true power. Imagine if we used the full capacity of our brains? What would be possible? Its all there, just waiting to be discovered. Einstein himself, who managed to use a larger portion of his brain than most anyone else known said:
“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.” — Albert Einstein
Let’s look at the 4 minute mile for example, said to be humanly impossible until Roger Bannister did it in 1954. Soon after he did it, many others achieved it too. Now its a standard of all middle distance runners. My point is, we create belief structures of impossibility, so it is only our minds and our societal belief structure that keeps us from accessing a far larger portion of our capabilities. Surviving in no way gives permission to creating ‘whats possible’.
Whats missing in the world at the moment is a greater sense of hope and curiosity. Our creative spirits have been dulled by fear and propaganda, and the human condition is generating despair and accepting it as law. We are divided by race, religion and sex and those in power want to keep it that way. Its an archaic system for creating order, some of it is absolutely essential, yet all of it needs to be upgraded.
We are all made of the same stuff, the same organs, cellular systems and brain matter, and our body has the ability to regenerate itself. Most of your body, skin, cells and many organs are totally regenerated between a few weeks to 7 years, depending on the part. If our bodies can regenerate themselves in this way, it seems reasonable to assume that our minds and thoughts can as well. Why is it that we are so attached to our belief systems and separating ourselves from others if they think and feel differently?
I digress, this is a whole topic unto itself yet its all related. You see, if you have to survive discrimination of any sort, it cuts off your creative flow, just the same as if you are the discriminator. All forms of separateness remove you from creative flow state, and creative flow state, my friends, is where all the magic is.
Flow State is the antidote to a survival mindset.
Flow state requires equal amounts of discipline and surrender. When you find that intricate balance you will experience concepts and ideas flowing to you at a rapid pace, a feeling of peace and love, and a deep affinity to the world and everyone around you. In this space you are free, in full self expression and love radiates from you. You are so full that there is no space for division, for separateness and you literally see how connected we all are.
You see nothing is more powerful than love, it can heal many wrongs, and bring someone back from the brink. In all my travels, books, seminars, and education the main thing that has profoundly struck me, is that our basic human needs are to be seen, heard and loved. Its truly that simple, and yet we deny that for ourselves and we deny even those we love these three simple gestures.
As an exercise, I challenge you to sit with or call three people this week. To truly just listen to them, intently, without adding your 2 cents worth, and then when they finish (even if they have spoken for what seems like forever) then ask…. “and what else”, they may go on again, and then, ask again “and what else”, this simple gesture will be a bigger gift than you could ever know. I mean when was the last time someone truly just wanted to know all about your world? with a keen listening that then created a total feeling of being seen, heard and loved?
We are the ones to shift consciousness, we are the ones to start the revolution of love. Don’t sit back and complain about the world or the state of affairs, just take these small steps of love and listening, and the revolution of love will commence. For every gunman that went on a rampage, do you think that could have been avoided if someone stopped to hear them or made them feel loved? Love always trumps hate. There is always a crack where the light can filter in.
Each and everyone of you has the power to move the world to peace, love and harmony. Start in your home, then spread it out into your community, and be that person to smile at strangers, be the person who chooses to brighten up someones day, every day you can. Because you never know when you will need that reflected back to you, and the more you give, the more you get. Its a simple law of physics. So start today. Who is the first person you will give the gift of listening, seeing and loving today?
