An Act of Worship

My name is Katie Copenhaver. I am a Christian wife and I grew up as a Pastor’s kid or a PK. Growing up in that atmosphere is always challenging because people in the church suddenly believe that you are perfect and that you have all the answers. They tell their children to model your behavior ,how scary is that. People often forgot that even though I was a PK I also was still a sinner.

I am currently reading a book called Sex and Money by Paul David Tripp. In this book it talks about how Sex is an act of worship to God. God is our creator and he deserves all our worship. As a result, sex is an act of worship to God our creator.

However, we are surrounded and immersed in a culture that says that sex is just about you and what you want. You can’t even watch a TV show without them having one night stands in it or having couples who have sex and a couple episodes later have broken up and have moved on to another person. Those TV shows leak into our lives. People today think that it is perfectly fine to have one night stands and that divorce is just part of life. You have fun with them for a little while and then you move on. There are so many songs about sex like “Let’s Talk about Sex”(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydrtF45-y-g) This song also talks about what they want out of it. We have lost the fact that sex should be an act of worship to God.

If we brought sex back to being an act of worship I think we would see that relationships and marriages would last a lot longer. We need to realize that everything we do should be an act of worship to God, but also that we need to start thinking about others and not be so wrapped up in ourselves.
