Does Showing Your Earnings Hurt Your Business?
Network marketing has been around a long time. Wikipedia claims the model of this kind of business has been around since the 1920’s.
Then it took a viral-like turn when the dot com boom hit and created the ability to reach anyone from around the world (with a connection to the internet) to buy your stuff.
However, even with that much reach, the chances of having profit within the first year are pretty slim. Instead, there is a different kind of gain: knowledge and skill. Most people can’t accept that. Let me explain.
Most of the time network marketers would rather show their earnings because it that is what attracts a lot of people to the industry. What most people don’t know (because marketers don’t usually share this) is the hard work it actually takes to be successful because it’s easier to grab people’s attention when showing sexy income claims. People are not aware of how much time and money it takes to get a profit.
As they say, the industry as a whole only has a 3% success rate. If you take and listen to the successful stories of master marketers, the most common theme is it took about 2 to 4 years before that person had real success in their business.
This truth canNOT be accepted by the instant gratification world we live in since the dot com boom and fast food. So breeds the fake-it-til-you-make-it marketers who are not interested in showing the grind and doing the hustle (no, I don’t mean this)
There is no greater turn off to me than a internet marketer that — right off the bat — is shoving their earnings in my face, as if that is supposed to demonstrate credibility.
I fell in love with the industry because of the challenge and the skills I gained that will last me a lifetime. I am able to provide quality content to prove I have credibility that will make me more valuable in the market place. And my followers love it. No amount of $$ signs is going to do that.
That serves no purpose to anyone other than feeding them hype and breeding more fake-it-til-you-make-it marketers.
There are plenty of 6 to 7 figure earners, whom I have gone into business with, that chose not to show their earnings. If you follow Ray Higdon, as an example, he is all value and no $$ (hype).
I’m not saying to not be proud of your achievements. You should celebrate those successes. I don’t think it totally wrong to ever show earnings, especially when people ask, but it has to be done in the right way to avoid appearing as bragging. Just keep in mind you are setting the example for others.
Just give the right amount of information, using just the right approach to inspire people to want to be a part of what you are doing. It’s not the what, it’s the how that brings people in — and I believe that’s the way the industry will be going.
So get yourself on Facebook Live, Snapchat, Instagram Stories, and YouTube — and give value by teaching others what you know! Then you will never have to worry about what or how much you disclose.
I feel it motivates me when I see others that started small and are making an extra income doing something they like and turning it into something BIG! That’s more believable to me. That says, “Hey. I can actually do that!”
No one can relate in big claims that only give them false hope, especially when marketers claim it to be easy with just 2 hours a day. You earn yourself better credibility than that online.
Don’t fake-it-til-you-make-it because you will never make it. Honesty, integrity, and providing pure value should always come before money.
Nevertheless, I’d like to know your thoughts on marketers who show how much they make online. Is it inspiring? When is it too much?
