The soul of French

Avoir une autre langue, c’est posséder une deuxième âme. — Charlemagne
To have another language is to possess a second soul.

For me, that applies especially to French. Elegant, sophisticated language with very different connotations from any other language that I know of.

I still remember when in April 2016, I had lived in France for several months. I read something online and hadn’t paid any attention into what the language was, hadn’t translated it. Afterwards I needed to go to check, and French it was. That’s when I understood I had started to really learn and understand the nature of it.

Learning was sometimes tough and hard, but it was worth it. Nowadays I love visiting especially Paris to read and listen French, to sense the language. Some of my favourite quotes are in French, and they don’t really translate to English or any other language I know with the same feel.

Le bonheur est parfois caché dans l’inconnu. — Victor Hugo

La mode se démode, le style jamais. — Coco Chanel

Rester, c’est exister. Mais voyager, c’est vivre.

Vous êtes votre seule limite.

Beautiful language, la belle langue indeed.
