Welcome to Nepal

We arrived safely in Kathmandu on Tuesday evening after 24 hours of flight time and 18 hours in layover time (in Atlanta and then Seoul, South Korea). Our luggage arrived and we were met at the airport by the Fullbright people. At our apartment, we were met and given two apartments to chose from. We are slowly settling in and finding our way around this city.

The traffic here is insane. Crossing the street is a game of chicken. Also there are so many stray animals on the street including dogs, cows and goats. We are definitely not in Kansas anymore.

The people here have been very friendly and very helpful. Above are one of the groups that sponsored Brook for the Fullbright. Tabesh, next to Brook, is an incredible entrepreneur that is doing some very cool science. These are also the folks who coordinated his NMSU class that he brought here in January.
We are just at the end of the monsoon season so we have had rain many afternoons and evenings. It is only in the 80s but it feels much hotter with high humidity.
My Kindle has turned out to be great. I finished “An American Marriage” and am now diving into “Hamilton”. Both of which I would recommend.
Cooking is going to be a challenge with limited kitchen supplies and figuring out the grocery situation. We keep finding more grocery stores with more and more options though. Treating water is a nuisance but I guess it is better than getting sick. Our neighborhood is full of expats so we are finding lots of coffee shops and restaurants.
I’ll try to get better at getting photos. There are so many people and cars and motorcycles it is hard to keep track of it all.
