Sun Kissed Hope

I’m cut off from your warmth
But you still reach me
As if lost in a bittersweet caress

A memory that haunts and comforts

Just as I breathe in the winged songs
My peace is shattered

The hum of metal beasts drown out the softness of earth

Enough rhythm to coax slumber
But enough to allow rest?

Tiny breathes zip in and out of my companion
A trophy of conquered sound

Perhaps sleep was won because she knows not Earth’s sorrow

How oil battles water
How steel battles wood

How stone crushed cements a barrier between us and earth

And yet

Each day she sings to the trees
Praises the leaves
And flies with the bird

Children listen to the Earth
And Speak for change
Because they have yet to forget their Mother
