Lucknow is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh as we know which is also known as the city of nawabs, the reason behind this is that Lucknow in the 18th century was ruled by Nawabs. And it is said that the name of the city is named after Hindu God Lord Lakshaman. The culture of Lucknow is very different and attractive. This city is very famous for both Chikan as well as for Chicken. Lucknow city is 2nd happiest city in India. The total population of Lucknow is 28.2 lakhs. It is the 17th fastest growing city of Uttar Pradesh. The literacy rate of Lucknow is 79.33%.

I am a pure Lucknowite because I am here since I was 3 months old. I will suggest you visit Lucknow city at least once and I am sure you all will love it, so please plan a trip to Lucknow, there is a lot to enjoy.

There are many architectural buildings that you should plan to explore which has its own unique structures like-

  • Bara Imambara (Asia’s biggest hall, the construction of this beautiful building was started in 1784 built by Asaf-Ud -Daula Nawab of Awadh. It is said that there are 1024 ways to reach the terrace but only two ways to come back i.e, the first gate or the last gate. It is a wonderful and huge monument, for which you should plan to see this beautiful historical building. It is a massive place with lots of peace.)

  • Rumi Darwaza (also known as Turkish Gate built by Nawab Asaf -Ud- Daula in 1784. It is situated between Bara Imambara and Chota Imambara).

  • British Residency — It is a famous landmark here, and it is a group of several buildings in a common precinct in the city of Lucknow.

The most common languages used in Lucknow are called Braj, Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Koeli, Koshali.

Few Lakhnawi phrases and words that are mostly used by Lucknowites only (our own style to express our feelings) which sometimes seems very funny for non-Lucknowite -

  • Shukriya which means to thank people.
  • Pehle aap which means after you.
  • Aadaab arz hai which is used for greetings.
  • Mohtarmaa which means respected ma’am.
  • Huzoor which means respected sir.

The most common and important word which we prefer is “Hum” instead of “mai” or we can say “I”.

You will hear us saying “Hum tumse baad me baat krte hain” aka “I will talk to you later”.

Lucknow Metro is a rapid transit system serving our city. In India, Lucknow metro is the eighth longest operational metro network. It covers a distance of 22.87 km with 22 stations and also it is the most expensive transport system in Uttar Pradesh.

Our city has also one International Standard Cricket Stadium popularly known as Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana cricket stadium, which became the 3rd largest international cricket stadium in India. It has a seating capacity of 50,000 and was established in 2017.

There are many shopping markets and malls that will satisfy the needs of people of all ages.

The most crowded and favorite shopping destination of Lucknow is HazratGanj. And also some noisy Bazaaars or we can say markets of the city are Kapoorthala, Bhoothnath, Janpath, Chowk, Sahara Ganj Mall, Wave Mall, Fun Mall, and many more. So, these are my personal favorite places for shopping with lots of varieties.

The specialty of Lucknow is embroidery work called Chikankari work, which is completely handmade and having beautiful and different patterns, varieties in form of style, design, the color of clothing. So, you should definitely shop and I am sure you all will love it.

The culture of Lucknow is still very much alive even today. So, plan a trip to Lucknow and enjoy this beautiful city.
