If I were a product manager at Facebook
If I were a product manager or a an influential person working at Facebook this would be my 10 point agenda:
1) Facebook is a Big Data company and not a social network.
2) Its an Advertising company which is focused on building products around big data and not paid customers.
3) Think of Money as bi-product by providing great products based around the information available and generated in real time.
4) Use the already available information which they have about peoples likes dislikes and use it to get high paid advertising which “Works” and is based on better insights.
5) Forget about likes as the count of value in the system.
6) Don’t make money off peoples affections but actions(in a different way).
7) Give people ways to do more and more things with in Facebook no just games.
8) Separate key elements (features) of Facebook from one another and secure them only to have flexibility over other features.
9) Change the attitude of social network.
10) Create great products and know it before building them. Stop Mocking!
I believe if Facebook binds to the above points it has a very high chance of growing positively and stabilizing (its not that fb is not growing) but I personally feel the value of Facebook as a social network has diminished over last one year for me, so above are my thoughts on my personal experience with the social network.
