When I find myself pulling up short on achieving a goal I’ve been working towards, feelings of defeat can lead to thinking that it’s time to quit.

But what if it isn’t time to quit? What if it’s time to pivot instead?

What if it is time to change how I look at the goal? What if it is time to adjust my expectations of how I believe it should look?

Because expectations are like that.

Expectations can keep you so focused on one singular way/path/idea — a preconceived notion — of how something should be and leave you closed off to other possibilities.

But there is usually more than one path to the same goal. Choosing a different process toward the goal can lead to a result that exceeds your expectations.

“I detached from the outcome I expected and wound up with one that surpassed my every hope and desire.” — Cara Alwill Leyba

Truth is, the goals we make and the plans we create to achieve those goals are only based on what we knew when we created them. We are constantly growing and learning. Better paths can emerge.
