Crack Open Your Heart
Last summer, at the end of August, I received a message from the Voice that makes no sound. Although I’ve written about these Soul Self downloads before, this one was a new message.
“Crack open your heart.” The download or transmission was crystal clear. Four simple words.
I have a way of tuning in, of aligning with my higher Self to stay in communication. I mentioned it before, so you might remember it, the acronym ALWAYS:
Ask
Listen
Wait with willingness
Answer received & declared
Yes
Spirit
Receiving a download is part of asking, and cycling through ask, listen, wait with willingness, answer, yes, Spirit helps me create an ongoing posture of receptivity and a channel to receive. In August, when this message came through, I initially had a reaction and a response. The reaction was egoistic. The response was Soul.
Crack open your heart.
My Soul responded immediately. Wow…awesome. I get that. This is BIG. It’s just four words (with brevity, succinctness, a powerful focus) and, yet, it’s SO PROFOUND. It says so much.”
Then — -
My egoistic self reacted, a bit quizzically and a little defensively. What? Why? My heart is already pretty open. What’s this?
Laugh/chuckle — — ego had to pop in….of course!
But, I didn’t linger in that….I really got this pretty quickly. And yet, it’s helpful (and amusing) to notice that ego must try to have its say, take control, distract or divert attention.
Once I sense the egoistic self at work, I acknowledge her and thank her and let it go. Sometimes easier said than done. This time was easy. Then I remember my ALWAYS steps. And I circled back to asking.
What happened next was a bit surreal. With the declarative assurance of Knowing that I’ve written about before, I received two confirming answers within a short number of hours. Yes, Spirit!
I want to tell you what I Knew. And how it arrived. Both are amazing stories, but they are very, very different and seemingly unrelated. One poses a problem for me, as an author. That story is complicated and it’s private. The circumstances involve others and I want to protect their right to tell their story (or keep it private). Let me think of a creative way to show you what I received and declared.
But, first, the download itself….
The Download & The Confirmations
Writing this blog is part of my response to an earlier download I received from Spirit to my Soul Self. That first message asked me to publicly write about my personal experiences of heeding the still small Voice.
As well, I received a clear communication to Unleash the Soul of America.
Since then, I’ve put myself in the posture of asking. What is this message for…on my Soul’s journey? What’s my role to play? What’s next? Where am I to go? What am I to do?
Even now, I’m staying in a place of open wondering.
I immediately had a capital K Knowing that having an open heart was part of what was coming. Crack open your heart. This was mine to do and I had the tell-tale signs after: a strong feeling of certainty emanating from my energy field, a sense of trust, peacefulness, happiness, joy, inspiration — — and pure flow.
I didn’t know specifically what I was supposed to do to crack open my heart. Of course, I had “ideas” based on my personal and professional experience in the world. You bet I did. I could feel a “list” being automatically generated in my head. Chuckle. I said thank you very much to that part of myself and then set those instant reactions aside.
The first confirmations I received (within hours!) were clear. They had certainty. One arrived in the immediate and the other followed a time of unpacking.
First, let me introduce you to Sophie…
Come Meet Sophie, The Lover and Healer
The easiest way to introduce you to my new friend, Sophie, is to show you a picture of her. I think you’ll agree she is beyond cute! Can’t you just tell from her eyes that she’s here to bring a message of connection, love and healing? And, may I add — happiness!
At the end of 2020, a year of so many changes in our country and around the world, I lost a couple of dear, furry friends a few months apart from each other. Both transitions were oh so sad. My eyes tear up just thinking about them. Life just wasn’t the same without Hunter and Darcy.
I’d been newly scanning the pet adoption services in our community and experienced the wonder (and disappointments) of thinking Is this the one? There was one shelter in particular that I kept my eye on, in patient impatience.
Then came Sophie! She was one of 11 pups in a litter and the shelter announced they were just about old enough for adoption! They were 10 weeks old and, yes, we saw all the pups! It was a bit overwhelming, until a staff member said, “Sophie is the one that is first up in the morning, full of energy and ready to go!” Then, we knew — she’s the one for us!
Sophie is a ray of pure sunshine. She is here to crack open people’s hearts. She does it every day. She is a puppy, to be sure, but an old soul and healer as well. There’s a sense that we all have something to learn from her. She’s here to help us remember.
The first thing Sophie does when she sees someone new close by is to sit down with her back straight. She’s quiet. She just energetically assesses and connects with the person. It’s like she’s checking the Being and the situation out.
Does he/she see me?
Does she/he like dogs?
Is she/he tuning into me?
Are we connecting?!
If she feels the connection and senses that the person is really present to her, she moves in. And so do they! A love fest happens right before my eyes — every day, multiple times per day!
Sophie’s approach is rubbing off on me. I’ve found myself doing what she does when I walk into spaces where I don’t know anyone. I’ve even said in my head “what would Sophie do here?”
I’ve had so many great responses from people who I connect with and just start talking with, truly seeing them and lightly engaging them.
And, when she’s already met you before — — let’s just say that Sophie only has BFF status for her friends! She’s so adorable, one can’t help but smile, laugh and watch! Do you know almost everyone who knows her has a voice change when they spot her and call out her name. Their voice becomes high pitched and joyful as they say “Sophie!”
A number of people have told me that encountering Sophie is like love therapy. For a few moments, their day changes. Love rushes in, sweeping everything else aside. And, after the moment, they are on a different trajectory.
Sophie insists on FUN and she reminds me and those she meets on our walks that living with an open heart means engaging in the beauty, energy and enthusiasm that surrounds us daily. We just need to be willing to stop, ask, look and listen. It’s like Sophie is saying to each of us, that thing you’re working on isn’t as important as taking a break with me and being HAPPY! Let’s go!
Sophie cracked my heart open wide. There is no missing it. The adoption possibility for Sophie arrived almost immediately after my August message download arrived.
What Does it Mean?
When you’re tuned in, in alignment, you’ll learn to really hear. I don’t know if my download is for me alone (clearly, Sophie was part of it and she affects me wonderfully and greatly, every day!), or if it is for others too.
Maybe Crack open your heart is for all of us. After all, it came as a result of asking and listening following Unleash the Soul of America.

Crack open your heart was a message to my mind, to remind me of my right mind and to bring me (and those who join me in receiving this message to their Soul) into the mind of Spirit. The confirmations, including Sophie’s overflowing Love, showed me the result of an open and welcoming heart. As I began to remember, I knew it meant a huge shift in Being. Being really present. Being able to discern the egoic and to realign constantly with Source and Truth.
As I sat with the message and asked for further guidance I created a list of personal, heart opening affirmations. I’ll share them with you here and I encourage you to listen closely to affirmations (these, or others) or better yet, write your own! They are reminders as you ask, listen and wait for your own Soul transmissions:
· My heart space is wide open, extending & receiving love & light
· There is an infinite amount of love
· I know myself as LOVE and it is my guiding truth
· I am worthy of the purest love & so is my Soul family
· I see myself & others in a compassionate light
· I create loving, healthy, supportive relationships
· I am one Self, united with my Creator, at one with every aspect of creation & limitless in power & peace
· I release & let go of feelings of defensiveness, judgment, resentment & fear
· I forgive myself & others for mistakes, growing from these experiences
· I am grateful for everything that shows up in my life, as my heart is filled with joy & gratitude
What happened next is amazing…but a bit of a tricky story to tell. Let me try…
Secret Healing
I became privy to a secret. The secret had existed my whole life. It affected others around me, but they didn’t know about it either. It was, after all, a secret. A very well kept one.
The core of the secret was good, not bad. But, as secret things tend to do, years had created emotional pain, uncertainty, doubt, mystery and heartache around the story for some of those intertwined with it. Only one person knew all the details and a few others knew parts. So many details had been tightly held and, really, not clearly understood. It was a significant emotional burden some of those involved were holding…for years, decades even.
This secret involved two families. They were connected, but they didn’t know each other. The secret connected them. In terms of the circumstances of those involved, the revelation of the secret wasn’t materially important, in itself, but the emotional significance for a few key individuals was great.
For reasons I attribute to Soul Self and my download from Spirit, I was to become privy to the secret and play a role in its revelation and resolution.
I Know I received the download (Crack open your heart) to prepare me for receiving this secret as it was revealed to me and for how I was to BE as it was reveal, discussed and explored.
And, beautifully, there was a peaceful unfolding and resolution that allowed some of the burden to be relieved and the innocent to be spared. Maybe, someday, I’ll be able to tell you more, as the details of the story are fascinating but, for now, these bits ‘n pieces will have to do.
Amazingly, I got to speak with a number of the individuals woven through the secret and its long life. Preceding a couple of key conversations, I connected to words I often repeat and which I learned from A Course in Miracles:
I’m only here to be truly helpful,
I am here to represent Spirit,
I don’t need to worry about what to say or what to do, because Spirit will direct me,
I am content, as I know I am not alone, Spirit is with me,
I will be healed, even as I let Spirit teach me to heal .
Healing did, in fact, occur. New perspectives were embraced. Old meanings and assumptions were set aside. Sorrows were erased. Decisions were made to move forward with life. One person even picked up fresh energy to try new things and live life more fully. And, beautifully, those who were unaffected by the secret’s long existence (or didn’t want to be affected by it further) were spared. Several of the people involved, as this saga played out, remarked on the miracle that had occurred.
Hold on to your seatbelts. Take this in: I first learned of the secret within hours of my Crack open your heart download. Everything I’ve described to you took place just days after the message from the still small Voice. I KNOW that receiving Crack open your heart into my field of awareness influenced how I responded when the complicated circumstances of the secret arrived.
My Avenues to Openness
Let me tell you a bit about how I put my ALWAYS reminders into practice, so you can ask and listen, receive and declare your own Soul messages. You have a unique pathway, even though we are all One. The still small Voice might be speaking to me, for you to hear as well, so that we will both move forward on our unique path, going to the same destination — — HOME! Just like one word can mean several different things, one download can manifest in several different ways.
I don’t want to spend too much time talking about the things I do, as it’s far more important for you to move in the way of your Being, but I’m going to add a ‘part two’ to this essay. This next part of Crack open your heart will show you the other tools that have appeared for me as I’m in the ALWAYS process — there are ideas, methods, resources I felt drawn to, in order to open my heart wider. These precious avenues lead to further evolution of myself on the Soul level. Stay tuned for part two’s further sharing.
