Though longer than most acceptance speeches, Will Ferrell’s acceptance speech at the Mark Twain Awards is known today as one of the most entertaining speeches made. His speech alone just proves that he deserved the award.

The jokes Will Ferrell made were hilarious. Each joke made you wait for his next one. He also would say something serious and then would say a joke that defended his serious, meaningful statement, which the audience loved. Will Ferrell made jokes toward real issues, like that the majority of award winners are white, this being a racist issue for some. Now of course he was joking about it but he did still reference the culture of that. That’s something great about comedy, real and uncomfortable issues can be brought up and be made into jokes and can make us look at the issue differently. This type of comedy is great for these award shows, he really appealed to his audience. His speech even after 5 years is still hilarious which makes it so memorable. I don’t know if Twain would be proud, considering he dropped and broke his bust but comedy is comedy, and I think even through the jokes this speech had great meaning.
