Don’t quit your job to travel the world
Ravi Raman

If you’re interested in writing and have even a cellphone camera, you may want to approach one or two travel publications, tell them about the trip you’re planning and ask if they’d be interested in a series of articles from the road. If so, the fee won’t be enormous but at least it will help to cushion any price-gouging. Whether the answer’s yes or no, you might like to blog, video or journal and produce a book when you get home. Seriously. I know of someone who found a whole new career as a travel writer that way, and has never needed to go back to 9–5!
