I agree that hospitals are very hierarchical and also think many other careers are similar. Here at IIT we many levels of people. Working here i am able to see the way more powerful positions deal with subordinates. In my dept the Vice Provost talks to every one of his emplpyees with respect. He doesn’t treat the Assistant to the Vice Provost any differently than the office’s Administrative Assistant. I think this is important to do because no one wants to feel that they are not important to the organization. Before the current boss my office had a boss who didnt care about his employees or their lives and as a result the office despises him. The current boss is concerned with everyone’s life and always asks them how they are doing.
