Taken on my hike in Chugiak Park, Alaska

Winter Wonderland

I’ve stepped into a wintry wonderland —
Slowly, I make my way across the smooth ivory carpet,
frost kiss my cheek and nose — welcoming me into the crystal palace.

Snow as sheer as dust fall onto my hair like confetti — like magic.
Bleak and bare trees transform in their white gown. Pure
and glowing, thin branches intertwine their delicate lace — some swoop
down to me and some try to reach for the pastel sky.

Hush.
The frozen palace echoes peace and stillness.
I can’t even hear
the whispers of the wind.
