The WebCord virus has become one of the world’s most pervasive forms of malware, creating havoc for computer users worldwide. A browser hijacker, it infiltrates computers to take control of web browsers causing annoying ads, redirects, ads showing up unexpectedly as pop-up ads etc. In this article we will discuss what this malicious code entails, its symptoms and impact of infection, detection methods as well as removal techniques from your PC.

What Is the WebCord Virus?

The WebCord virus is a malicious computer infection designed to take control of your web browser and hijack it for any number of malicious websites and advertisements; redirect to malicious pages, display unwanted ads and collect personal information. Typically distributed via email attachments, software downloads and malicious links.

How Was WebCord Installed On My Computer?

WebCord was most likely installed unknowingly or by users themselves. Sometimes this program appears in advertisements, cracks for games, or as part of free downloads; sometimes users don’t realize where this software came from until later when other programs begin installing automatically as well. You should always pay close attention when installing software as often the installer includes optional installations which you may have unwittingly permitted or permitted through its settings or configuration files.

Take care when agreeing to install software, opting for custom installation and deselecting anything unfamiliar — especially optional software you never wanted in the first place — such as unnecessary updates or features that you never planned on downloading and installing in the first place. Never install programs you don’t trust as this could compromise your device and security.

How Does the WebCord Virus Work?

The WebCord virus works by infiltrating your computer and changing its web browser settings, then redirecting you to malicious websites, displaying ads without your knowledge, collecting personal data from you and even installing additional malware which could do even more damage to your PC.
