Thank you Karen! Yes the euphemisms are real and horrifying. Even worse, “involuntary euthanasia” is a term still used in modern medicine and in the discussion of medical ethics, albeit in a (very slightly) different context.

If you search the term on Wikipedia there’s and interesting (and depressing) page about the history of involuntary euthanasia that also links to discussion in some modern medical ethics textbooks.
