Doctor Who Goes Feminine With Jodie Whittaker
I remember I used to get scared of watching Doctor Who when I was a kid.
I have this phobia for anything scary. You know Monsters, ugly, blood sucking monsters send cold shivers down my spine.
But for Doctor Who,I still get to watch it because of its unique approach to showcasing scary creatures looking mysterious from space or other worlds.
My sister, the bold type would sat glued to the TV while I sat far from the TV so that I could hide my face in my hands when the monster scene comes up.
Anyways, these are old time memories of longest TV series show,Doctor Who.The Time Lord.
Just some few minutes ago,I got this news that Doctor Who now have a new cast. And shocking or I would say, surprising is that the new Doctor Who is a woman.
Jodie Whittaker who rose to fame in ITV’s crime drama Broadchurch is now the new face of the Block buster British TV series.
I wonder why a woman this time around. Or is it that the woman biased is playing up here.
You know the woman equality rights issues that had been subject of controversy over the years.I think they are going the way of giving woman the chance to play such a daring role as Doctor Who.
In the words of Chris Chiball, Doctor Who executive producer:
“After months of lists, conversations, auditions, recalls, and a lot of secret-keeping, we’re excited to welcome Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor.
“I always knew I wanted the 13th Doctor to be a woman and we’re thrilled to have secured our number one choice. Her audition for the Doctor simply blew us all away.
“Jodie is an in-demand, funny, inspiring, super-smart force of nature and will bring loads of wit, strength and warmth to the role. The 13th Doctor is on her way.”
See these glowing attributes that Chris gave about Jodie Whittaker. I am particularly convinced that this is no case of female equality but that she was tested and she proved she is the right person for the job.
So, we will be seeing a breathe of fresh air so to say in the new Doctor Who.
I can’t wait to see how she play the role as a woman.
How she fit in well into the Time Lord character.
And how she deals with those creepy, sleek monsters.
In all,it is obvious that Jodie will bring a new, different touch on the Doctor Who TV series.
In Jodie Whittaker’s words:
“I’m beyond excited to begin this epic journey — with Chris and with every Whovian on this planet. It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.”
Okay Jodie,we can’t wait too.
