Why I’ve decided to start writing

This is the first time I write here on Medium. Although I read a lot of stories from other people and find it useful and inspiring, I haven’t thought writing something to other people. Yet.

This short story, besides being my debut, also serves to remind my future self why I started writing. Sometimes it is too easy to forget our initial motivations.

Writing stories has four main goals for me:

  • Share something interesting with the community;

I’ve learned a bunch of stuff just by reading other people’s stories, tutorials etc. I think it is time to contribute myself even with small pieces of knowledge. It may not be something perfect or really new, but it is a try.

  • Practice communication skills;

It’s a fact that personal skills matter more than technical skills. I believe that writing fits into personal skills and it can be a real challenge for those who are not used to it. I also believe that the best way to get better at anything is by practicing. So, here I go.

  • Keep thoughts organized;

It is actually two goals 1) clarify my ideas by writing them down and 2) keep them safe and easy to find in future (thanks, Medium :)), and

  • Build my personal brand;

Public visibility is undeniably important for all of us. I’ve been convinced by many stories (and personal experiences) that building an honest but strong personal brand is key to success.

For the sake of curiosity, the subjects I’ll write about include (but are not limited to) outlier detection techniques, machine learning and statistics. Posts about software engineering and Python programming may come up eventually.

These are my objectives from now on. Although I don’t promise anything, I’ll certainly try to give my best.

I hope it encourages others to do the same!

Thanks for reading.
