Maybe It’s Time to Do Away with Anonymous Reviews
Electric Literature

No book is ever good or bad except in the context of the individual reader. If she loved it she loved it. If someone else hated it because of its socio-political context then they hated it. Requiring that other people agree with your position is just suppression.

Some people like movies and books with savior themes and some of those protagonists are white. If you read a positive review and another criticising the book as being a white savior book you know what you’re getting and can make your choice.

The bigger issue to me is allowing reviews by people who haven’t read the book. That’s one of the reasons I love Amazon reviews: at least I know the reviewer bought the book.
