Good article that is relevant to work I’m doing right now. The price of prototype fabricated parts (PCBs, sheet metal and machined parts) are a level of magnitude less expensive that domestic suppliers. The downside is that it takes longer (fabrication time + shipping) and there is often a communication barrier when trying to describe what you want done. The culture in China does not encourage innovation , so trying new ways of doing things is often opposed.
I have also run in to quality issues on prototypes. They seem to want to see the min acceptable quality levels that you’ll accept!
