Local band Shortstraw found themselves in hot water after it was discovered that the artwork for their latest single T-Shirt was a copy of another artist’s work. They have since had to pull artwork from their social media platforms due to copyright infringements.

Taking to Facebook on Tuesday morning, the band apologised for the plagiarised artwork shortly after it was brought to their attention, saying that the group was notified on Monday evening that the artwork was not actually done by the artist employed to do it.

“It has come to our attention that the artwork for the latest single T-SHIRT, is a copy of another artist’s work and we have immediately retracted the artwork’s use from all of our platforms,” Shortstraw wrote.

They revealed that the original artist who the artwork was taken from is Adara Sánchez Anguiano. The group is in contact with the designer to resolve the situation.

“Late on Monday, 10 October we were notified that the artwork for T-SHIRT, the latest single from the Those Meddling Kids collection, was not done by the artist employed for the artwork, but a copy of an artwork by an artist called Adara Sánchez Anguiano. We asked the designer to create an artwork for the single and used it in good faith, with no idea that it is a copy of another artist’s work. We immediately got in touch with Adara, and apologised for the use of the artwork without her permission.

“We once again apologise to Adara, and are looking into solutions to get this situation resolved as soon as possible.”
