Overall watching the video, a lot of the kids were engaged and able to explore the exhibits. At the water table, for example, there were a lot of girls and boys playing and looking at it. They were all working together. There were other times were the boys dominated each exhibit. Here are the observations from the video:

Water Table

  • Mostly boys
  • Some girls scattered around but main groups playing were boys
  • The girls that were there were only with other girls and the boys with other boys

Rocket Launch

  • mostly boys again
  • They were all playing and taking turns
  • not a lot of groups of girls playing

Field Station

  • All the kids went so it was a mix
  • All the kids seem to be the same level of interested when the person was talking to them about the exhibit
  • Boys would walk in groups together and girls would walk in groups together it is rare to see them mix

I thought that the field station could use some redesigning in the sense of putting something on the walls while they’re walking down so that they can listen to informative videos, more specifically, videos with information on famous women in STEM. This way, as girls as walking down they can see the successful women on the walls. I also think this video was not a good representation of what the museum would normally look like because all the kids were forced to go to each exhibit.
