Day 3: Bootcamp you say?

Good Friend Google…

After signing up for the pay version of Codecademy and Udacity, I began to lean towards this thing called ‘Full Stack Development’. Based on my current understanding this is a developer who understands both the Front End and the Back End of web development. The Front End of development deals more with the user experience, think the touch and feel of the website interface. While the Back End of development deals more with the server side, think the databases to store information. But with so many languages, which stack is the best to start with? Later, I would understand that the better question is “What do you want to build?”.

How to find the place?

Now I had a thin idea of what would interest me, the next step was to find my ‘Yoda’. Luckily, I came across a comparison website by the name of Course Report. This site helped me find local bootcamps in the area and provided details on the following: reviews, career tracks, costs and locations. In a way, it was my one stop shop to the local scene. Well, I did a lot of other searches on line as well to gather a collection of reviews and next steps as well.

Getting to Know the Bootcamp.

Prior to setting down with the representative of a local bootcamp, I search for numerous questions that should be asked. Quora was also a big help with the search. Below are some good ones I found…

~ What is the seasonality of your instructors? What is there background with various teaching environments?

~ How do the teachers ensure those with little to no programming stay caught up to those with experience and how not to bore the students with more experience.

~ How many hours are directly with the instructor and how many are in Lab?

~ What grads could I walk to about their experience?

~How are classes rescheduled if an instructor has personal issues?

I also wanted to audit the classes of the professors, to obtain a better idea of their style. To say the least, the local bootcamp began to see me regularly.

Is this Free?

Well, my economics teacher always told us that nothing in life is free. This was no exception. Next challenge, how do I finance this journey into a new career…Savings, Loans, Sell a Kidney?
