How Colicious got #1 On Product Hunt
It was a crazy experience
I had a simple idea. To make a color generator website. I began building it, and named it “Colicious”. I showed it to my friends and family, and stopped there. I didn’t think it would get anywhere, really.
A week later, some of my friends pushed me to try and launch it, out there, in the wild. The truth is, I was scared. What if people didn’t like it? What if it wasn’t good? What if…? I kept going on and on.
But on Sunday, May 22, 2016, that changed. I woke up at 6:00 AM. I had spent one hour making the perfect GIF and tagline.
Then, at 7:00 AM, I launched it on Product Hunt.
I thought it would get nowhere, that no one would really care about a stupid color generator. But in the first 10 minutes, I had 4 upvotes. These 4 upvotes made me super happy, someone out there, that I didn’t know, liked Colicious.
After I ate lunch, I checked back again. I had 26 upvotes. I began jumping up and down, I was so happy! I even had some comments on people liking Colicious. It got the title of “Trending right Now”. It was third on the homepage.
I happily responded to every single one of them.
After that, I didn’t think it would go anywhere. I was happy with third. So I just began improving it, coding more and more.
After that, I didn’t bother to check back, I went out and played some soccer. I came back home at 7:30 PM. That’s when I checked Colicious.
Even later in the day, I checked again. It had 100 upvotes. At that moment, I pat myself on the back, jumped up and down, and started screaming. It was truly an amazing moment.
My analytics exploded.
Colicious currently has 477 upvotes on Product Hunt, which is super awesome!
