“What an honor. What a responsibility. What a gift we have been given to be born in an atmosphere with oxygen and carbon dioxide and millions of years and phenotypes cheering us on with recycles of energy. The thing is, I think we can make it … I only hope we don’t f*** things up before that. Because millions of years is a long time and I don’t want to let the universe down.”

I originally posted this on my Instagram, but I thought I’d share here — emojis and all — since the Paris Agreement is in effect as of today. 🙌

Let’s chat for a minute. I really believe these things matter to us, but it takes time for the urgency to sink in and for us to figure out what we can DO. Justin Trudeau has positioned himself as a climate leader. Think about it — do climate leaders build pipelines? As I recently heard David Suzuki say: if we don’t have clean water, we can’t survive. If we don’t have clean air, we can’t survive. And then all of this ~attempting to enter the workforce and fix the social & economic issues we’ve inherited~ stuff won’t matter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The time is right now for climate action. Don’t forget, all systems are go for the Paris Agreement on November 4, 2016. You keep hearing about the Kinder Morgan Pipeline and Dakota Access Pipeline projects not only because of the environmental consequences but because they mean serious HUMAN RIGHTS violations against Indigenous communities. Water is life.We cannot let corporate interests contaminate their water and land.🙅

So remember this: The world is run by those who show up. ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 Do your research. Spread the word. Sign petitions. Join rallies. Check out your local 350.org group. Call Trudeau (1-613-992–4211), your Member of Parliament, your member of Congress and raise your voice. Make sure we can’t be ignored.

Talkin’ bout my generation… 🎶 If we prove that protecting the planet is our number 1 issue — that we want an EARTH to inhabit and to leave for future generations 🌎 — we can make sure climate is on the top of the political agenda. But we have to demand that. Millennials are going to be a huge group of voters in the next federal election. Make it loud and clear that this is an election issue. 📣

TL;DR: This MATTERS. This is happening NOW. If we don’t have clean water, we can’t survive — and these pipeline projects would have extreme consequences especially for Indigenous communities. Raise your voice for climate justice and put the pressure on your politicians.
