Dear Peter Thiel

Hello, SF Ali

I know it may seem like the end of the world when someone you used to admire endorses a political figure that you may not agree with, but I can assure you that you lose out on so much by submitting to the negative emotions it inflicts.

There are a lot of people I’ve come to accept that will have different views than mine. It takes a lot of emotional control to understand that simply because someone’s views differ from yours, doesn’t make them a villain. Our only explanation is that they must be “siding” or “scheming” with the opposition, but in reality, they are human just like you trying to their best to make the right choice.

It’s best to view them as victims to limited information than submitting to the initial reaction and sabotaging their image and calling them a “fuckboy”. Trust me, I know how heated one can get when you find out ____ believes/supports ____. But you are only hurting yourself in the long run. Peter Thiel is only human. And making him sound like a sell-out is emotionally irresponsible and you know it.

There is a lot we can all gain once we learn to take politics out of our judgement against people we admire. It takes a lot of work, but since I’ve conditioned myself to see past it, I find my world a lot more sensible and painless to explore.

With that said, I’ll say this about Thiel: the wisdom he has taught me and the world he has opened up to me in his book Zero to One was genuine, raw, and sincerely life-changing. And nothing he does or says from here on out will change that because that’s what sincere wisdom does--it lasts forever and shines beyond whatever darkness its vessel may carry. Don’t betray wisdom when it has been sincere with you.
