Google’s definition of the word, “user”

users

jack dorsey says,

let’s reconsider our users

they’re humans

call them customers

empathy is more than

building products

people will pay for

design should be

dead simple

so they don’t [have to] think

about using

to create a “hook”

a viral loop

a digital dependency

the new obesity epidemic

comes free on the app store

candy crush loop’s hard, then

very easy

trapping you between anxiety

and boredom

so each time you think “i’m done”

you crave more

instead of touching people for our dopamine hits

we touch the sapphire glass in our pockets

we’ve found an easier dispensary

one that’s “free” but we

pay with our attention

with our preferences and purchasing intent

with the bits that reduce us

to age, gender, interests

and they give us our doses

in little bytes

just enough to satisfy

to keep us coming back

to keep that monthly-active-user count

up and to the right

do you like watching your likes get high

or do you prefer the buzz of comments

the blue glow that puts you to sleep

the first thing you take when you wake up

because for companies, success is

how likely are you to recommend X

to a friend?

just give it a try

i found this new thing

you’re gonna love it

it’ll make you feel good

loneliness is modern withdrawal

minus the sweating

minds searching for connection

downloading at 50 megabits per second

and if our brains on sugar look like our brains on crack

then i wonder what they look like on facebook

let me google that.
