Announcing the First ZERO55.vc Portfolio Company: Transfer Doc

At ZERO55.vc, we’re committed to supporting the next generation of diverse entrepreneurs, especially those tackling areas of high social impact (like healthcare and education) through innovative technologies (like artificial intelligence and blockchain).
That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the first member of the ZERO55.vc portfolio: Transfer Doc, an A.I.-enabled hypertension (high blood pressure) management platform for patients and clinicians.
According to the American Heart Association, more than 100 million Americans are afflicted with high blood pressure. That’s nearly half of all American adults. So, it’s pretty safe to say this is a huge issue facing American public health.
Interestingly, the disease disproportionately affects African-Americans, Asian-Americans, and Native Americans, compared to their White American counterparts in the same weight category and similar neighborhood education level, according to a study by Kaiser Permanente (46.0% for African-Americans vs. 34.9% for White Americans).
What Makes Transfer Doc Unique?
Transfer Doc takes a unique, three-fold approach to effectively managing high blood pressure:
- A patient-facing application for tracking items like blood pressure cuff readings, weight, medications and side effects, and progress towards personal health goals.
- A clinician-facing dashboard for reviewing patient data and assigning patient tasks, with tools including clinical decision trees to assist in diagnosis and modifications to treatment plans at the point of care.
- Using anonymized clinical data to power machine learning algorithms, enabling predictive analytics and huge boosts to a health system’s population health capabilities
Meet the Transfer Doc Team
Transfer Doc CEO/Co-Founder Peter Spence has worked as a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician for more than ten years, holding various Medical Director positions across his career. He’s received additional education in business and entrepreneurship, receiving his MBA from the University of Miami, and attending the Founders Institute Program in NYC.
Dr. Spence is joined by fellow co-founders James Carbone, who serves as the company’s CTO, and Ronald Mohamed, who serves as the company’s Chief Software Engineer.
