Infinite Uptime, DRF Bay Area’s newest investment, just launched an Industrial Internet platform that helps manufacturers make smarter data-driven decisions. This UC Berkeley company is making waves in the manufacturing industry, and we’re thrilled to be supporting student founders Raunak Bhinge and YC Chen.

Infinite Uptime’s solution

How it works: With no special tools required, a magnetic monitoring device installs on any machine in seconds. The device uses a proprietary algorithm to sense and predict tool failure, as well as detect a host of improper machining conditions. The data is displayed real-time in an easy to read dashboard on any connected device with an LED color-coded light. Longer term use of the data can be used to increase manufacturing efficiency and drive smarter utilization practices in the manufacturing environment.

While the Industrial Internet is still in its infancy, Infinite Uptime is already working with multiple Fortune 500 companies to test and refine their product in the field. Early adopters have even been using the device as a training tool to teach proper machining conditions.

Infinite Uptime was born from Raunak’s PhD research at the UC Berkeley Laboratory for Manufacturing and Sustainability (LMAS). The founders explored business applications, and bridged invention with business plan in Steve Blank’s Lean Launchpad class during the Fall semester of 2015. Raunak has deep roots in manufacturing, having grown up working after school in his family’s automobile component workshop in India, while YC started his career at NASA and IBM Watson, and also has family roots in manufacturing in his native home of China.

Infinite Uptime has an innovation pipeline of fresh ideas to make their products resonate even better with manufacturers including a data visualization dashboard, additional form factors of IoT sensors and a data consulting tool.

DRF is excited to play a role in bringing some of UC Berkeley’s world-class research to market, and we can’t wait to watch what this team accomplishes in 2016 and beyond.
