Finally! A Roadmap. But Who Is Navigating?

(our journey is still young, we have just begun the epic movement; follow us on Twitter (@kcusnavy, @athletefoundry), connect with me on LinkedIn, and catch up on our past posts at this [link], you won’t be disappointed!)

We have spent months and months researching, talking, and interviewing student athletes, parents, and coaches about the current journey and process to play sports in college. It’s been humbling and frustrating to hear just how nebulous, confusing, outdated, and overly complicated today’s process is,…plus…

It Almost Entirely Focuses On Performance ON The Field and It’s One Dimensional.

Can there be more to this? Yes! But we must be forward-thinking. Athlete Foundry is on a noble mission, an epic movement to change the paradigm, to turn student athletes into superheros, and by doing so, increase their odds of success in sports and life after sports.

Having a roadmap (or strategy, or game plan) is extremely helpful, but it’s not that easy. Two important questions to ask when it comes to a roadmap:

(1) what is the destination (in other words, what do I really want to achieve?), and…

(2) who is helping me navigate (what are the decisions to make, when to make them, what are the pros & cons, and are all the dimensions being considered)?

If you are a student athlete, the parent or coach of a student athlete, we want to give you a basic roadmap that connects key “dots” that I am confident will help you avoid common mistakes and give you a glimpse into becoming a complete athlete. Download the roadmap for free now [link].

From an earlier post, I wrote that there are two major components to this:

(1) how does she increase her overall odds of success in sports and…

(2) how does she build excellence off the field so that when combined with her performance on the field, she is unstoppable?

The simple way to look at this is that having a smart strategy helps connect dots that no one is connecting and using engineering helps keep all the dots lined up in the right direction towards the dream.

The Roadmap….

There are a lot of flavors of strategies available, whether it be through coaches, scouts, recruits, the parent who spent months doing her own research, or the neighbor who says “I’ll show you, I just put my daughter through this process.” While well intentioned, be careful. At best, they are one dimensional.

Life is more than one dimensional and is constantly changing,…shouldn’t your strategy?

Athlete Foundry is building a tool that understands your destination and will help you navigate, in more than one dimension and while adapting to constant changes around you. In our numerous conversations with parents, we discovered that there is tons of value in sharing some basic information in a simple, easy-to-follow format, with each and every parent that has even the slightest glimpse of their student athlete playing on a college team.

Remember, never sell your child short, regardless of her current capability.

If you take even the basic steps now, the results could be significant down the road as you contribute now to the creation of life options for her,…why would any parent not? Download the roadmap for free now [link].

The basic roadmap offers those key “dots” that are simple to follow, but easy to mess up. Messing them up can severely reduce or destroy your student athlete’s options. By following the steps, you have taken a proactive role in building her foundation.

Next, achieving excellence on the field. In its simplest form, we’ve included a way for you to track her performance on the field now, compare it against her peers and those that have gone before her. The key insight here is understanding what her performance trajectory needs to be.

Numbers are relatively easy to understand, but coaches have the very hard task of trying to understand “all of you,” of which a large part is your performance off the field. Athlete Foundry will help you connect these “multi-dimensional” dots to achieve excellence off the field, in a fun, simple, and powerful way. Some of these dots involve academics, leadership, character, confidence, helping teammates, building a network, exposure, financial aid options, and discovering non-sports passions.

Deciding to tackle the above will set her on a path to build her shield, it is what will set her apart, it’s the stuff superheroes are made of.

We will help forge and build her shield, and by doing so, build the complete athlete.
