Where is the best satay place in Kuala Lumpur, or even Selangor, to try the traditional marinated, charcoal-grilled meat?

Satay can unite us all; but when it comes to the best places, we may differ. It’s hardly a unanimous vote for the best place, from the peanut butter and succulent quality of the meat to the food and location they serve.

Here are some of the top picks in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, especially when you want to have dinner with the friends, family or colleagues after a busy day’s work.

1.Sate Rono

Even though it joined the satay track some time after selling other food, Sate Rono has amassed a loyal following over the years, offering an equally good satay eating experience. While some locals consider Rono’s meat to be nicer, juicier and tastier overall, others find Rono’s peanut sauce to be excellent, sweet and spicy. Well, since they are also located in the satay heaven of Kuala Lumpur, what could possibly go wrong?

2.Sate Kajang Hj Samuri

Ask anyone and they will tell you that you should definitely try satay at Hj Samuri. Oh, this was one of the first satay Houses to open in Kajang, leading to the town’s famed”satay Kajang”. Locals will tell you that no one can beat Hj Samuri for its daging and kuah (especially the one with a generous amount of chopped peanuts), making it one of the best satay places. Apart from that, they also eat satay arnab (rabbit), satay ikan (fish) as well as satay hati (liver) which makes Hj Samuri special.

3.Willy Satay

You know Willy’s Satay is one of the best Satay places because of the line at all times (don’t worry, the line moves fast!) and the piles of plastic bags waiting to be picked up at the collection area. The satay chicken was really good and the lamb and beef were a bit chewy. Plenty of well-marinated meat with a hint of lemongrass. The citrus flavor in the lemongrass helps draw out the oil, and each bite provides a refreshing sensation so you don’t get tired of eating. One good thing about being located in a food court is that you can order other dishes from other stalls to try as well. Willy Satay also has outlets in Kuala Lumpur.

4.Satay Station

The shop also hava another way of eating satay — with some grilled meat and fat to balance the choice of each bite. They also serve mee rebus, another famous favorite on the menu. Satay Station also has branches in Shah Alam, Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Mont Kiara, Cyberjaya and Ampang. It is a great outdoor spot for family and friends, because no matter where you go, you won’t be out of Satay Station.

Frankly, you won’t regret trying satay at these places as they are tried and trusted by the locals. Alternatively, you can also try making satay at home. Either buy ready-made or frozen satay and cook it, or make it from scratch. All ingredients can be found in supermarkets, including peanut butter.
