PickToRead: An intuitive news reader
PickToRead was just personal tool for me but when Google announced that they are shutting down the Google Reader, I decided to share PickToRead with others too. I do own a blog in a different language and I usually translate the news from English websites and PickToRead was originally a tool to summarize the news articles gathered from the famous English technology blogs.
PickToRead’s first use is to gather the news articles based on your interests across the web. Second it summarizes the news articles into full sentenced news articles.
For example this is the original post from TheVerge about ‘SimCity’ coming to Mac.
After being bumped from its original June 11th release date, SimCity is now due to arrive on OS X August 29th. Electronic Arts announced the finalized date today after pushing the game back two months ago. “We want to ensure the Mac is a great experience for our players and that is why we are taking more time,” the publisher said then. Indeed, EA has needed plenty of time and numerous updates to improve upon SimCity for PC, which was quickly overrun with network issues and stability problems when it launched in March.
The title’s sixth update patch went live just last week, bringing with it improvements and a new region for building called Granite Lake. Cross-platform multiplayer means you’ll be able to design towns with a friend on PC come August 29th. Best of all, for existing owners of the Windows version, a free Mac download will be made available through Origin.
And this is the summarized version of the news article by PickToRead:
The splines of SimCity for Mac have been reticulating for longer than many mayors would like, but that’s about to change come August 29th, when the game officially hits online servers for download. The release of the Mac version — which costs $40 for the standard edition, or $60 for the deluxe version — allows EA to finally make good on its promise of cross-platform, multi-player city building. If you happen to own both a Mac and a PC, you’ll find that one purchase allows you to download both versions from EA’s Origin store. Naturally, we’re crossing our fingers that SimCity for Mac will have a smoother launch than its PC counterpart, but it seems that we’ll have a definitive answer by month’s end.
You might notice that the PickToRead haven’t summarized the article much but the point is that the PickToRead’s summarizer detects the article length and the information contained in the article. For example the summary of an article 2 times longer than this one might be shorter! This is why PickToRead is awesome :)
Not satisfied yet? PickToRead comes with an built-in post saving system to read the posts later, a trending system to show you the most popular topics and posts in the last 24 hours and a built-in rss reader to let you follow your favourite blogs on PickToRead. Also it lets you turn the summarizing feature on or off for rss feeds that you desire.
Geeks! PickToRead lets you edit the summarizing preferences too!(this feature is under development).
