ESOSA

Good and you?

OSAGIE

Great as from this moment.

ESOSA

(Tilts her head forward a bit and raises her eyebrow)

(Waiter comes to their table)

WAITER

Good evening sir and madam (bows a bit)

What is it that you would like to have?

OSAGIE

(Looks at him)

I would… let the lady go first.

(Turns to Esosa)

ESOSA

Wine

WAITER

And?

ESOSA

Just wine

OSAGIE

Please make sure that it is non-alcoholic

WAITER

And you sir?

OSAGIE

Wine alcoholic of course as well as a plate of eba and that funny named soup…

WAITER

Which one sir?

OSAGIE

(Points at the name of the soup in the menu placed on the table)

WAITER

Oh, ofe nsala

OSAGIE

(Giggles)

Told you it funny

(Looks at Esosa and the waiter)

WAITER

Would that be all sir?

OSAGIE

(Smiles and nods his head)

WAITER

(Bows out and walks away)

OSAGIE

So how are you?

ESOSA

I thought I answered that question not too long ago?

OSAGIE

(Bends his head and looks at her)

You know what I am asking?

ESOSA

I am fine

OSAGIE

Even after he threw you out?

ESOSA

He didn’t throw me out. I left because it was the right thing to do.

OSAGIE

Regardless, with me you knew who I was and my standing with you.

ESOSA

Even with the possibility of another man’s baby and cheaing on you?

OSAGIE

Well, with me you never did that. You were faithful because you loved me. I can’t say the same for him.

ESOSA

You sound so sure

OSAGIE

I know.

ESOSA

And present

OSAGIE

Because you still do. Moving along, when are you coming back home with my baby.

ESOSA

It isn’t yours.

OSAGIE

Could be and with that possibility I would not want you to be out of my sight.

ESOSA

(Laughs and shakes her head. Then she sights Adim walking out with a lady)

ADIM

(Stops at their table)

Hello Esosa

ESOSA

(unable to look up)

ADIM

So you couldn’t even wait to give birth before you jumped into your cheating partners arms.

ESOSA

(looks up at him with pain and almost about to cry)

OSAGIE

And you couldn’t wait to get rid of her so that you could achieve your lifelong dream (stands up) of being a bitter wannabe playboy.

ADIM

(Scoffs)

Have a good evening the both you.

(Walks away)

OSAGIE

And that’s who you left me for?

ESOSA

(looks at him, stands up and storms away)

OSAGIE

(Surprised)

WAITER

(Comes with their order)

Sir?

SCENE 19

INT: OFFICE –DAY

ESOSA

(Walks into Habiba’s office and sits down)

HABIBA

(Looks up without raising her head but continues with her paper work)

Rude.

ESOSA

(Taken aback)

HABIBA

I always knock before I enter into your office but you just walked in.

ESOSA

Sorry

HABIBA

Half-assed but I’ll still take it.

So na wetin happen yesterday wey you no gree talk to person as you come house.

ESOSA

But you weren’t at home

HABIBA

Says who?

ESOSA

Well, I didn’t know.

HABIBA

Or you just didn’t want to share.

ESOSA

I saw Adim with another woman.

HABIBA

And you were there with a man.

ESOSA

You know why I was there with Osas.

HABIBA

(Shrugs)

ESOSA

He is still hurt especially with the spoke to me yesterday.

HABIBA

(Stops writing)

He should be but that does not give him the right to be an eternal dick to you. He said his peace that faithful night and he talking about it now is just him being a dick.

What did he say?

ESOSA

Called me a cheater as well as Osagie. The problem is the way he said it and his demeanour. It was like I am good enough and was never worthy of him. I always knew Adim had a bit of pride … (Habiba cuts in)

HABIBA

A lot.

ESOSA

I also knew that he is very forgiving and a nice guy.

HABIBA

And what did you do when he was talking.

ESOSA

I just sat there and used all of my energy to hold back tears.

HABIBA

Well, that was sad. You have to remember you hurt him as well as the fact that you do not have to keep beating yourself up. Make sure this is the last time you allow him get away with such pettiness. He has insulted you enough. It’s a month already. If it was an injury, it would have healed. Stop taking his insults. Hope say you don hear.

SCENE 20

INT: HABIBA HOUSE — EVENING

(Knock on the door)

ESOSA

(Opens the door)

Ah, Musa. You’re welcome. How now?

MUSA

(Enters into the house)

I’m great and you?

ESOSA

(Smiles)

Great as well. Habiba is inside, you know her, and she LOVES to take her time so as to look perfect. For you, of course.

MUSA

(Smiles and sits down)

ESOSA

I heard you are about to move to Abuja.

MUSA

Yeah, I decided to try politics.

ESOSA

(Laughs)

Money man. Remember us oh.

MUSA

Of course, you be my personal person.

ESOSA

Some are you interested in the lower house, house of reps?

MUSA

Yes, I want to start from there. I want to represent my village in Jigawa. It is very underdeveloped. Although the people are not complaining that does not mean that they do not deserve the good things of life. Or at least the basics like Electricity, water that can sustain them.

ESOSA

And how do you plan on doing that.

MUSA

Get funds and create a sustainable system for them. Jigawa is a very sunny place and there’s enough land which means I could do something like a solar plant as well as a central borehole.

ESOSA

(Nods her head)

You really have thought this over… very good ideas.th only problem is the political system in Nigeria. It is too dirty for a soul like yours. My fear is that it would make you soulless.

MUSA

Don’t worry about that front, I know how I would handle that.

ESOSA

And how are you going to do that… (Habiba cuts in)

HABIBA

Diva coming through.

ESOSA

I hear you

MUSA

(Stands up to kiss her)

Can we?

HABIBA

What were you both talking about?

MUSA

I’ll tell you all about it in the car.

ESOSA

(Smiles)
