On to the Web!
2nd Week down! 14 Days into Alpha Camp’s Web Development Bootcamp, 14 Days into the #100daysofcode challenge (http://100daysofcode.com/) As of now, I’m feeling quite a few things at the same time.

> I miss having an entire day around dance(just performed for the past 2 days, but hey, I used to put so much time into it.) and seeing my kids. Okay, they’re just dance students but hey, they can be pretty adorable.
> I feel like I’m starting to gain momentum in coding — be it reading articles, practising on Codewars or doing our assignments, It feels good to be doing something related everyday.
> A bit sore that my eyes are all tired from staring at screens and I don’t really have time to read this new book I borrowed (Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson — Thanks Kai!)
> Most importantly, I’m glad I’m enjoying the boot camp so far. It’s the process of learning — challenging but fun!
This week we went into HTML/CSS, and also learned how to use the Bootstrap framework to help make our lives easier.

For HTML/CSS, a lot of the things went through were basics, so I spent the time working on the TicTacToe Assignment instead. It was difficult at the start trying to figure out how to breakdown and organise the code into different parts, but the satisfaction was good at the end when we managed to do it!
I attempted ‘Level 3’ of the assignment — to build your own TicTacToe AI that the player can challenge. I tried, with some advice from friends, to search for examples or algorithms that can be applied. Thankfully, I found one called the Minimax Algorithm. I found myself unable to fully comprehend the idea, and my attempt at translating it into code was a failed one.
I didn’t manage to come up with working code. But reading up on Minimax allowed me to understand the process.

So I moved on to focus on bootstrap and the portfolio site. I’ve tried using Bootstrap before, but having a lesson to go through it makes all the difference! I’ve always had ideas on what my own site would look like. I then realize the effort needed to reach that level is HUGE, so maybe I’ll try to do something simple for now :) So excited to finish it!
Some things I learned this week:
- When learning multiple skills, consistent practice is important. You can’t afford to neglect either — it just means more practice time!
- If something seems too complicated, the best solution is to use examples or break it down into simpler terms. And then try to understand it again.
- If you don’t understand how you solved a problem (Using references; Trying out different code), you’ll probably end up facing the same issue again!
I haven’t had time to read up on the coming week’s material yet, hope it’ll be fun with something to build :) Alright, off to code!
Thanks for Reading! I’m Kelvin, I code, I dance, and I eat. Find out more or contact me at kedanco.com
