Mixtape
Time for another poetry offering from yours truly. Over the years I have written more than enough verses to pollute the world for a thousand years. The good pollution though. The rants that make you think and reconsider what they told you was reality. Ultimately I am just a poet in the world contributing to the art and life. There will always be a need for artists to lend their voice to the conversation and the noise.
I call my kindle poetry books mixtapes. I would like to believe I have something in common with the hiphop artists releasing their art for free to the masses. Well mine cost 99c. That is a wee less than free but not breaking banks or economies. I want people to read my take on reality and consciousness. It’s the best feeling in the world. This high school student in New Orleans said I was her favorite poet and not only that but “he’s alive too.” She was writing a paper for english class about poetry and poets. She had seen my work online. It felt elated. You give your art to the world and nothing besides. You share your madness, love, visions.
Well am thinking of a screaming cover for the book. Something tangible and subversive. As for the number of poems am not really sure. It will come to me when the time is right. I want my mixtape to be hard and still malleable. It needs to cut deep and enlighten at the same time. Poetry is both dissident and shaman. I have written hundreds of poems over the years and I still feel that rush when the words are coming like fire to cleanse and open my eyes. My new mixtape is one more cathartic moment.
