Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu… (Hero or Villain)
The name sounded strange as it is a mixture of two names that was one third Hausa and two thirds Igbo. This two tribes in Nigeria weren’t the favourite of friends to each other, yet here was a name that unified them.
Nzeogwu: An intimate portrait of Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu by Olusegun Obasanjo is the name of the first book on Nigerian History i ever read. The book was my father’s, always on the top drawer in the most prominent part of his library. I was drawn more to read this book by the prestigious position it kept in that Library.
This was the Biography of the Man who was the principal actor in the Nigeria’s First Military Coup in 1966, written by his best friend Olusegun Obasanjo (who is an enigma by himself). This book attempted to dive into the minds of a man that some say shaped Nigeria. Now was he a Hero or Villain, I’ll leave that for you to judge.
Olusegun Obasanjo has been involved in Nigeria’s Past, Present and probably its future. “OBJ” was Head of State, sentenced to death(and then imprisoned), and later became the President of Nigeria.
All His experiences he has detailed out in a series of books, the most recent is a trilogy called “My Watch”.
Is Obasanjo a Hero or Villain? You’ll have to make your own deductions.
