I’ve since built upon this and have written a script that can automate this process to repackage as a vagrant box— expanding the disk to 55GB suitable for doing Yocto builds — or any other tasks requiring lots of disk space.

You can then publish the box back to atlas or keep it locally on a server local to your network (what I do — results in speedy vagrant machine setup on a new machine).
