Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. - 1 Peter 1:16

When we read this verse sometimes our natural tendancies cause us to take a spiritual inventory of what it means to be holy. As we ponder our lives we go down our list and check off the areas where we are good and what remains unchecked is where we need to work on and improve. The thought came to mind that even thought this is not a bad idea is it what God really desires from us. When things are going well we feel good about ourselves and are less likely to change the other areas that need work. But when things are not well with us we become more desperate for help and direction from God and are willing to do what ever it takes to remedy the problem. What if our mindset is misdirected about doing whatever to be holy instead of being holy. When we surrender to Christ we take on his nature and likeness in our spirit but applying it to our flesh is something else. I feel our challange is we get caught up in a to do approach instead of getting to know him on such a deep and personal level that we can't help but be transformed by his likeness living in and thru us. Only then can we take the steps needed to change and be more of a living sacrifice than an example of one. As I write this I find it very humbling that my own mindset needs to change concerning this area. I pray that we all can reach a place of greater surrender and intimacy with our heavenly father who wants more than anything to show us how much he loves us and once we reach that place how can we not become more holy because of our relationship with him in light of that truth
