Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. - Matthew 5:11

There has or will come a day when we as believers will be persecuted for our beliefs in Jesus Christ. Sometimes it may be cruel words spoken against us or even acts of violence committed against us personally. This is a reality that the modern day church does not talk or teach about much today. And yet its so important as it shows we are truly identified with Christ in his suffering and not just the positive aspects of following in his footsteps. In the following verse, it says to rejoice which sounds crazy according to this worlds standards. The trying of our faith builds trust and deepens our relationship with Jesus. This world is not our home but a layover on our journey to heaven. We must build a solid foundation of faith so that when trials come we won't be overcome by them and be tempted to renounce our faith in Jesus. That's what the devil wants us to do but we can resist him if we prepare and store up his word in our hearts that we may endure the storm. And keep our eyes focused on the prize which is eternal life in heaven through Jesus Christ our King.
