Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. - Psalm 51:10

This classic hymn is such a powerful scripture written by David as he recognized the magnitude of his sin against God and did not casually dismiss it but with all out passion humbly threw himself before God pleading for his forgiveness and desire for full restoration. We as new testament believers some times take for granted the grace that Jesus provided by his death and resurrection as spoken in 1 John 1:9
And yet we can learn from David's example today to not take sin so casualy as it still grieves God's heart when we do sin. I am greatfull for what Jesus did on our behalf but we must treat sin carefully and not allow the devil to influence us in a way that we treat our sin as no big deal and allow our heart and spirit to grow cold that can lead to our closeness to God become distant as God is still holy and requires we strive to be holy as well. So next time you sing this song think about David's example of humility and the grace Jesus provided and how we can combine them as one to a sweet smelling fragrance of praise to our God !
