For ye were as sheep going astray, but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. - 1 Peter 2:25
Sheep are cute, cuddly, and tender-hearted. They can easily be distracted and wander off without concern for their safety. That sure seems like us at times. We get so focused on certain things that we forget about what's really important and put ourselves in dangerous situations unknowingly.
And yet Jesus would leave the entire flock alone to go after the lone lost sheep and return it to the fold. What a beautiful picture of a powerful yet simplistic love for us.
And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice - John 10:4
Like sheep, we must learn to keep our eyes on the Shepard and not allow the things of this world that draw us away. He will not force us to come but desires we choose to come to him humbly. But once we belong to him he will spare nothing to keep us close to him.
