If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit - Galatians 5:25

What does it mean to walk in the spirit?

This question can be answered in so many different ways based on personal beliefs, denominational doctrines, and experiences.

There is an unseen battle raging within each of us regardless of what we are aware of. This battle greatly impacts our thoughts, our beliefs and determines our actions in response to all the difficulties we face daily.

For those of us who have placed our trust in Jesus Christ for salvation know it's an even greater challenge because we know the truth but that does not guarantee we will always carry it out as we should.

The battle I speak of is our free will. We all inherently know the difference between right and wrong on the most basic levels. But what about when it's about the living gospel. Do we allow it to work through us or do we ignore it and do what we want instead.

For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. - Romans 7:15

We can have the proper understandings but fail to obey them when it's most appropriate.

There's God-given freedom at our disposal that's not subject to the law. Instead, it's a responsive expression of love and gratitude that seeks to honor our savior who gave us a gift we do not deserve.

If the Son, therefore, shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. - John 8:36

If we choose to operate according to our flesh we will fail the majority of the time. So what can we do to overcome these challenges we all face.

1.) Know the scriptures

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. - Psalm 119:11

His word gives us power!

2.) Thanksgiving

In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. - 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Thanksgiving puts the focus on him and not ourselves

3.) Obedience

Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. - Galatians 5:16

If we desire to walk in the spirit we must build a foundation that seeks to honor him by our actions that are fueled by love and obedience.
