Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. - Hebrews 4:16
Confidence - the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.

We live in an era where confidence is considered a must-have quality when it comes to job hiring or finding a person to marry.

In the past confidence as it relates to Christian character was frowned upon as it was viewed as fleshly pride in self. Fast forward to today where now in the church it's expected and it goes against the traditional views held concerning humility and character.

So the question must be asked "which view is correct and biblical" for today?

What if I suggested to you that both views are possible!

This is a huge topic to dissect but we can glean some simple truths to gain a basic understanding until you can take the time to study it more deeply for yourselves.

For we are the circumcision, which worships God in the spirit, and rejoices in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. - Philippians 3:3

This verse shows us that when we put our focus on God and seek after his promises which he has given us we can have such confidence. In this instance, our actions are based on bringing him glory for our provision and not anything about self.

Sure we must do our part when it comes to exercising our faith to lay claim to such promises. One warning I would give is to be careful when assuming the meaning behind each promise.

We have a responsibility to rightly divide the word of truth. Not all promises in scripture are universal and can be applied to any situation we want them to. I believe this is why other modern churches are a mess today concerning teaching faulty doctrines.

We serve a great God who desires we be equipped to carry out his plans and to reach others with his life-saving message. He promises to give us exactly what we need to carry them out and also give us the confidence to trust they are true.

This is a balanced way to have bold confidence that when we come before God with our request not only does he hear us but he will respond according to his word and our faith in it.

Thanksgiving and humility should always be our motive when we enter into that special place knowing he is the one who is worthy of praise and not ourselves.
