My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: - John 10:27

The bible describes Jesus as the great shepherd. Those of us who have surrendered our lives to him are like sheep in his flock. The shepherd spends his entire waking hours caring and tending to the flock. There are no nights and weekends off per say. Because of the amount of time the shepherd spends with his flock he is deeply connected with them and knows everything about them. One of the strongest characteristics about sheep is they have incredible hearing. This makes up for the fact that their eye sight is very poor and can only see well in bright light. They must rely on the sound of the shepards voice for direction more times than not. This is important as one of the downsides of sheep are they get easily distracted and because of their poor sight can wander off without realizing how far they have wondered from the flock. When the shepherd calls to them they hear and recognize his voice and come to him.But if they have wandered too far away even with super hearing they can get lost and become an easy prey for wolves or other animals. The good news is that Jesus the good shepherd will leave the entire flock to go after just one missing sheep. What a beautiful picture of how much God loves us and is willing to seek after us when we become lost. We too like sheep can easily get lost or go astray. But when he hear his voice speak to us we obey and come back to him.May we be reminded of our need for his loving care and provision and come running like sheep back to his flock where their is safety and peace.Knowing he will take care of all our needs. Amen!
