Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. - John 14:27

Powerful words were spoken by Jesus to his disciples. I can not imagine what it must have been like to spend many years with Jesus watching and learning from his example. Only to be reminded that he was leaving them. Their hearts and lives were dramatically changed from their first encounter with him at this point in time. I can bet great fear came over them as he spoke of his departing. This was not the first time they heard him speak about this but its another thing when the time draws closer and the reality of his words start to set in. But just as it seemed the carpet was about to be pulled out from underneath them he gave them great encouragement. He spoke on how the holy spirit would come and fill them and give them the power to carry out everything he had taught them with boldness and confidence. The peace that comes from the world is conditional as it requires constant effort to maintain and often times crumbles in the midst of circumstance. The peace that Jesus spoke about comes from a deep well that does not run dry. It's kind of like a warm blanket that envelopes you completely from head to toe. Even in the middle of chaos Godly peace conquers all. It's one of the great gifts the holy spirit brings to us daily. But like all things, this peace does have a price. It requires trust and surrender in order to reap the benefits. That is not something that comes natural to us. It truly is a learned behavior over time. But once we have mastered this skill it provides the ability to overcome just about anything. That's because it does not come from us but from the one who created it . Glory be to God for his constant provision. So next time you face something know that the peace that passes all understanding is yours to have as much as you can handle. But you must ask, seek and find !
