Bridging this gap requires more than making white people uncomfortable for their shortcomings. The supply side is just as important as the demand side. As a tech recruiter for twenty years, and a white person who harbors the conceit that he is something of an ally, I would like nothing more than to go to LinkedIn or Dice and scroll through the legions of engineers of color. When Langston Hughes was a waiter, and was serving Vachel Lindsay, he had poetry to give to him to consider. Vachel Lindsay had the good sense to support Hughes in his efforts to be published, but he had something tangible to support.
