The core problem with arguing Medicare for All is comically popular is it’s not true. Sure, it’s popular with the prattling classes on the left but it’s comically UNpopular with the voters needed to win a national election. As long as the right can say “you can get your insurance the same way you get your driver’s license renewed only slower” and be right about it it’s a losing idea. That said Bernie’s original idea of “public option” is more practical. Have Medicare be something you can buy like any other plan and that puts pressure on insurance companies to straghten up and fly right. Making it available is a winning strategy, forcing everyone to use it is not. It’ll guarentee a Democrat loss in 2020 if abolishing private insurance is the platform.
